Who we are
Scholar (“Learn with Ollie”) is an online learning application at scho1ar.com, used by schools and tuition centres and by individual learners they invite. A learner uploads a chapter of their own textbook; the application reads it and teaches from it.
Access is approved by hand. Nobody gets an account by signing up alone — a request goes to an administrator, who approves or rejects it.
What we store
The account details a person or their centre gave us: name, email address, role, and the centre they belong to. The material they upload — chapters, worksheets, photographs of written work — and the record of their sessions, which is what makes progress tracking possible.
A learner's uploaded material is visible to that learner, to the staff of the centre that invited them, and to nobody else. We do not sell data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Every email we send
All of our email is transactional. Each message is sent to one person because of one action that person or their administrator just took. We do not send newsletters, marketing, or bulk mail, and the application has no facility to upload or import an address list.
| What triggers it | Who receives it |
|---|---|
| You ask for an account on our access-request form | You, confirming we received it — and our administrator, that one is waiting |
| An administrator approves or rejects that request | The person who asked, with the decision |
| A centre owner invites a teacher or student by name | That named person, with their invitation link |
| A centre owner sets a password for a member of their centre | That member, with their sign-in details |
| A student uses their centre's join link | That centre's owner, that a student is waiting for approval |
All of it is sent from no-reply@scho1ar.com, over a domain we have verified.
How your address came to be here
Either you typed it into our access-request form to ask for an account, or an administrator at your own school or tuition centre entered it to invite you to their centre. We do not buy, rent, or scrape addresses.
Because each message is a necessary part of an account you asked for or were invited to, there is no mailing list to leave. Closing the account ends the email. You can also reply to any message, or write to the address below, and we will remove you.
Bounces and complaints
If a message hard-bounces or someone marks one as spam, that address is added to our suppression list automatically and we do not send to it again. Those events are also published to a notification topic we monitor, so a delivery problem reaches a person rather than sitting in a log.
Children
Many of our learners are school-age. A child reaches Scholar through their school or tuition centre, which is responsible for obtaining a parent's or guardian's consent before inviting them. A parent or centre can ask us to delete a child's account and everything they uploaded, and we will.
